Start with the capital L: a tall loop that rises to the top and falls into a rounded foot along the baseline. Its tail runs straight into the u, so the pen stays down. The u is an upstroke to the midline, a trough down to the baseline and up again, then a downstroke; it runs from the baseline straight into the c. The c is a small open curve that starts just below the midline and swings down to the baseline; it runs from the baseline straight into the a. The a is an oval closed at the top, then a downstroke on its right side that exits at the baseline; it runs from the baseline straight into the s. The s is a short upstroke to the midline, then a curve back down to the left that closes on the baseline, and its exit stroke finishes the word.

Nothing is added after the word: there is no i, j, t or x to dot or cross. A common slip in Lucas is leaving s open at the baseline, which turns it into a small r.
