How to write capital H

  1. Start at the top line and pull the first tall downstroke to the baseline.
  2. Lift, return to the top and pull the second downstroke, curving in at the middle.
  3. Draw a small loop between the two stems at the midline and end with a tail to the right.

How to write lowercase h

  1. Start at the baseline and sweep up into a tall loop, coming back down to the baseline.
  2. Rise into a rounded hump at the midline and pull down to the baseline.
  3. Exit with a short upstroke to the right.

Common mistakes

  • A common slip is starting the hump of h from the midline instead of the baseline, which leaves a gap at the foot of the letter.
  • With the capital, learners stop the final stroke short instead of carrying it into the next letter; the tail of H is the join.

Joining h to other letters

The h exits from the baseline with a short upstroke that becomes the entry stroke of the next letter.
