How to write capital K
- Start at the top line and pull a tall downstroke to the baseline.
- Lift, start at the top right, curve in to the midline and make a small loop against the stem.
- Throw a diagonal leg down to the baseline and end with a tail.
How to write lowercase k
- Start at the baseline and sweep up into a tall loop, coming back down to the baseline.
- Rise to the midline, make a small loop against the stem and throw a short leg down to the baseline.
- Exit with a short upstroke to the right.
Common mistakes
- A common slip is making the small loop of k too large, so the letter reads as h or b.
- With the capital, learners stop the final stroke short instead of carrying it into the next letter; the tail of K is the join.
Joining k to other letters
The k exits from the baseline with a short upstroke that becomes the entry stroke of the next letter.
