How to write capital E

  1. Start near the top line with a small curve to the left, then draw the upper bowl down to the midline.
  2. Make a small loop at the midline and draw the larger lower bowl down to the baseline.
  3. Finish with a short upward tail that joins the next letter.

How to write lowercase e

  1. Start at the baseline and rise in a small upstroke to the midline.
  2. Loop over to the left and come down to the baseline.
  3. Exit with a short upstroke to the right.

Common mistakes

  • A common slip is pinching the loop of e shut, which turns it into an undotted i.
  • With the capital, learners stop the final stroke short instead of carrying it into the next letter; the tail of E is the join.

Joining e to other letters

The e exits from the baseline with a short upstroke that becomes the entry stroke of the next letter.
